Winner of the AI in Marking Award
How do you give every student useful, consistent written feedback when 550 first-year students deliver around 120 live team pitches in a single day, assessed by a team of eight markers? Dr Matteo Borghi and Dr Andrew Hull of Henley Business School, University of Reading, winners of the 2026 e-AA AI in Marking award, discuss the hybrid workflow they built to answer that question. Markers complete a redesigned, criterion-aligned rubric with short comments during each presentation. AI turns those judgements into structured, student-facing feedback. Markers and the module convenor then review and moderate every report before release. In a facilitated conversation, they cover the problem they set out to solve, the design choices that kept academic judgement at the centre, what the evidence shows, and what transfers to other rubric-based assessments. The session closes with audience Q&A.
