ALTE's 9th International Conference

ALTE holds an International Conference every three years, a larger conference for language assessment professionals to discuss and hear about the latest trends in our profession. Unlike regular conferences, it also includes an open call for abstracts for presentations.

15th - 17th April 2026

Our International Conference in 2026 will take place from Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th April 2026 inclusive, allowing arrival on the Wednesday morning and the opportunity to stay on for the following weekend to make the most of your stay in Germany! Registration for the conference opens on 1st September 2025.

Responsible Language Assessment to Empower Learners

The conference theme is Responsible Language Assessment to Empower Learners.  This theme highlights to responsibility of language testing organisations, as well as educators, policy-makers and learners themselves, in creating fair, inclusive and learner-centred language assessment practices to reflect the learners’ current and future needs and contexts, while maintaining the integrity of language assessments.

Conference Theme and Strands

The theme is divided into four strands: Responsibility and Social Justice in Language Assessment; Learner Agency in Language Assessment; Responsible AI & Tech in Language Assessment to Empower Learners; Wider Communication Skills to Empower Learners. Find out more here. The LAMI/Social Justice Forum also continues within the conference.

Venue

We will be meeting in the fantastic location of the Holiday Inn, Munich Centre.  Located just 15 minutes' walk from Munich's historic centre, the hotel is also close to Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn station. Making use of the hotel's excellent conference facilities, it is therefore possible to choose your accommodation at the same venue as the conference. Find out more on our practical information page.

Programme

Find out more about the schedule of the event and who's speaking, including social and other activities. We also have pre-conference courses you can sign up to, which take place at Goethe-Institut's premises.

Call for Abstracts

The call for abstracts for presentations opens on 1st June 2025. Find out more about our presentation formats, and how you can get involved, whether you are an ALTE member or not.
