The role of technology in modernernising school based assessment to help young people to succeed
The Westminster Forum Projects Education Forum invited e-AA Chairman, Matt Wingfield, to give a short presentation on role technology can play in ensuring that a modern approach to school based assessment helps young people to succeed post-18.
In this short presentation Matt reflects on calls for change to our existing approach to assessment in schools in the UK, exemplifying the work of several of the E-Assessment Association's members and sponsors to deliver a more inclusive, better balanced approach to assessment through the use of innovative technologies.
This includes the work that AlphaPlus and Surpass are doing in Wales to deliver personalised, formative pupil assessments in Maths and English; and what PebblePad - The Learning Journey Platform and Calibrand have been doing to capture and assess higher order skills with eportfolios in higher and professional education.
Matt also touches on the need to support teachers in their role in assessing student performance and attainment, reflecting on the work by RM Results in the use of comparativejudgement to support teacher grading and CPD, and the partnership between Vretta Inc. and NASBTT, The National Association of School-Based Teacher Trainers, in supporting teacher confidence and skills development in maths teaching and assessment.
