Scottish Government Minister discusses  workforce innovation with eCom Scotland

eCom Scotland was pleased to welcome Paul Wheelhouse, Scottish Government Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, to its Fife offices today. The visit was an opportunity to show how Scottish organisations are using technology to positively impact skills development.

eCom Scotland develops innovative technology solutions for workforce learning and development. They work with organisations across many sectors, including Energy. The company has achieved substantial growth in the last 3 years through a series of product launches and expansion into new markets.

During the visit Mr Wheelhouse discussed the cultural changes required in businesses to successfully implement technology solutions. He viewed the skills management system which has enabled Scottish Water to track competency across their organisation, and the eLearning that Devro are using in their skills academy for their global workforce. He also learnt about the bespoke online assessment system that has helped IWCF (International Well Control Forum) to transform the examination and certification of their candidates worldwide.

Paul Wheelhouse said “Technology is transforming the way we do business and we want to help Scotland’s businesses achieve their full potential in a digital world and to innovate to overtake and then stay ahead of their competition. eCom Scotland is a great example of an innovative Scottish company using its technological expertise to trade overseas and seizing the opportunity to meet growing global demand, not just for learning but for digital products. I am keen to see examples of good practice among companies engaging their workforce to drive product, process or service innovation and eCom, as a Business Pledge registered company, are actively engaging their people in this way. With more effective people development and engagement in innovation, progressive employers like eCom are better placed to compete internationally and are laying the foundations for long-term productivity and growth and to attract and retain a loyal, skilled team that supports their business objectives.
