Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire presents the Queen’s Award to Surpass team

BTL Group Ltd (trading as Surpass Assessment) celebrated their Queen’s Award for Enterprise (Excellence in International Trade) on 17 January in a prestigious presentation by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Ed Anderson CBE.

Local leaders, the BTL Board of Directors and Chair Bob Gomersall attended to celebrate the award, which recognises BTL’s outstanding success in the assessment industry and significant levels of investment.

BTL (now trading as Surpass Assessment) were listed as the 20th fastest growing company in the Yorkshire Fastest 50 Awards 2022 and currently employ around 170 staff in the UK and US.

The company has seen rapid growth both in the UK and overseas markets, succeeding internationally, particularly with its expansion in North America, based in Philadelphia. In 2022, Surpass delivered more than 3 million tests across 78 countries around the world.

Founder and BTL Chairman, Dr Bob Gomersall said: “I am proud that we have won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. The technology we provide is used all over the world. Our people come from a very wide background, but they all have one thing in common – a passion for what we do and doing it as well as we can. We have advocated and embraced remote working technology for over 35 years, and we are delighted that our technology has had a positive role to play in the COVID-19 pandemic by allowing exams to be taken at home in a secure way.” 


Surpass Assessment

The Surpass Platform is used for the secure creation, delivery, marking, and reporting of paper and computer-based tests. It is relied upon by governments, schools, colleges, universities, and professional certification bodies in fields such as healthcare and finance.
